A youth football pitch: a volunteer-led effort in Heliopolis
Volunteers in Heliopolis are raising $500 for a youth football pitch at the Unity vacant lot.

For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a youth football pitch. This year a group of 15 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Unity vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $500.
It will serve about 162 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $500 goes:
• Materials: $340
• Permits and inspections: $50
• Safety equipment and signage: $45
• Tools hire and delivery: $65
