A weekly visit for Mykola, 73, who lives alone in Lviv

Mykola lives alone and has no family nearby; a weekly hour of conversation would transform the week.

I'm writing for my neighbor Mykola, who's 73. Mykola lives alone in Lviv, and lost a lifelong friend last year. The nearest family lives 652 kilometers away. Mykola loves chess, and would enjoy someone to chat with. An hour a week, perhaps on Sunday afternoon, would mean the world. We can also arrange a phone call if you can't visit in person. All visitors will be introduced by me and I'll be there at the first meeting. I'll share references and, if you'd like, a short orientation from the local befriending charity. No special skills are needed - just kindness and patience. Thank you for reading my story.

  • So sorry you're going through this, Zlata. Wishing Mykola a smooth procedure and a full recovery. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. All the best.
