Dar es Salaam

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 28 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Unity bus depot, but no funding. We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $400. It will serve about 121 people, including local farmers and market traders. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $400 goes: • Materials: $300 • Permits and inspections: $30 • Safety equipment and signage: $20 • Tools hire and delivery: $50 Thanks for being kind about this. - Simiyu
