A solar-powered water pump: a volunteer-led effort in Salem

For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a solar-powered water pump. This year a group of 10 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Freedom bus depot, but no funding. We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $400. It will serve about 534 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $400 goes: • Tools hire and delivery: $75 • Materials: $270 • Permits and inspections: $55 I hope life is good to you. - Jyoti
