A skate park: a volunteer-led effort in Juiz de Fora
Volunteers in Juiz de Fora are raising $1,200 for a skate park at the Unity community hall.

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a skate park. This year a group of 24 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Unity community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $260, and the remaining cost is $1,200.
It will serve about 292 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $1,200 goes:
• Materials: $930
• Permits and inspections: $125
• Safety equipment and signage: $80
• Tools hire and delivery: $65
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.
