A sensory garden for children with autism: a volunteer-led effort in São Paulo
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a sensory garden for children with autism - we need $1,100 for materials.
🇧🇷 São Paulo, Brazil1,199 views
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a sensory garden for children with autism. This year a group of 27 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Sycamore bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $210, and the remaining cost is $1,100.
It will serve about 302 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $1,100 goes:
• Materials: $760
• Permits and inspections: $70
• Safety equipment and signage: $110
• Tools hire and delivery: $160
I hope life is good to you.
