A sensory garden for children with autism: a volunteer-led effort in Kinondoni
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a sensory garden for children with autism - we need $250 for materials.
🇹🇿 Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania195 views
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a sensory garden for children with autism. This year a group of 11 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Liberty health centre yard, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $190, and the remaining cost is $250.
It will serve about 422 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $250 goes:
• Permits and inspections: $35
• Tools hire and delivery: $20
• Materials: $195
Glad we found this place.

Praying for you, Halima. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry.
keep going. Great idea, hope you get there!

Rooting for you, Halima. Hope this works out for you. Wish I lived closer to Bornova so I could bring a meal. Love from São Paulo.
