A repair café workshop: a volunteer-led effort in Tokyo
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a repair café workshop - we need $1,700 for materials.
Anywhere in the world829 views
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a repair café workshop. This year a group of 15 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Harmony vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $630, and the remaining cost is $1,700.
It will serve about 94 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in May and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $1,700 goes:
• Materials: $1,200
• Tools hire and delivery: $210
• Safety equipment and signage: $290
With deep gratitude,
Risa
