A repair café workshop: a volunteer-led effort in Rio de Janeiro

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a repair café workshop. This year a group of 22 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Freedom Primary School, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $190, and the remaining cost is $950. It will serve about 471 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $950 goes: • Materials: $720 • Permits and inspections: $100 • Tools hire and delivery: $130 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to. - Beatriz
