A rainwater harvesting system: a volunteer-led effort in Winston-Salem
We have the land, the volunteers and the plan for a rainwater harvesting system - we need $3,950 for materials.
🇺🇸 Winston-Salem, North Carolina, United States1,251 views
For five years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 25 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Union bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $3,950.
It will serve about 397 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $3,950 goes:
• Permits and inspections: $210
• Materials: $3,400
• Tools hire and delivery: $340
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

Can I help in a way that isn't money? I'm near Winston-Salem
Thank you. If you're in Winston-Salem I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. Happy to explain more.
More neighborhoods should do this. Thinking of Winston-Salem.
Hang in there, Brooklyn. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. We're a small family in Nakuru but we're thinking of you. Blessings.
Sending good thoughts. Hope you get there. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too.
