Tumusiime lives with an amputation below the knee. The occupational therapist at the Dodoma Rehabilitation Centre has assessed him and recommended a powered wheelchair. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $550. His current equipment is 14 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined him to home for 4 weeks. With the right equipment Tumusiime could go outside without waiting for someone to push. It would change everyday life for the whole family. We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest. I'll pay the supplier directly from the funds, and I'll post a photo once the equipment is delivered. Where the $550 goes: • powered wheelchair: $440 • Fitting and training sessions: $30 • Delivery and set-up: $15 • First-year servicing plan: $65 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure. - Evans

  • can I help in a way that isn't money? I'm near Dodoma.

    • Sharing the link is the biggest thing. And if you know anything about powered wheelchair, advice is welcome too. Happy to explain more.

  • So sorry you're going through this. Gave what I could, wish it was more. After 28 years in social work I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

Praying for you. Your post was clear and honest. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Take care.

      • Sending good thoughts, Evans. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too.

You're not alone, Evans. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Greetings from Faisalabad.

          • thanks for sharing this, Evans. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. My husband and I read this together. Take care.
