I live with low vision from retinitis pigmentosa. My occupational therapist at the Los Angeles Rehabilitation Centre has assessed me and recommended a pair of hearing aids. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $2,750. My current equipment is 13 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 5 weeks. With the right equipment I could go outside without waiting for someone to push. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home. We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest. Funds go toward the equipment, delivery, fitting and a year of servicing. Where the $2,750 goes: • pair of hearing aids: $2,350 • Fitting and training sessions: $190 • Delivery and set-up: $60 • First-year servicing plan: $150 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.
