A fresh start in Amsterdam: help the Nguyen family resettle

After fleeing Yemen, the Nguyen family has arrived in Amsterdam with little more than their documents. They need help with a deposit, furniture and the first months.

My family left Yemen 6 months ago after we were targeted for our work. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Amsterdam. We're a family of seven and we're safe, but we arrived with very little. Our resettlement agency has provided 2 months of rent, and that support ends in October. I was a nurse in Yemen, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well. We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months. Funds are managed by the Amsterdam Refugee Support Network, a registered organization, which pays the landlord and suppliers on the family's behalf. Where the $1,250 goes: • Language classes and bus passes: $620 • Phone and internet for school and job search: $280 • Winter clothing and school supplies: $350 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Updates from Piet

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($180 in total) the plan for language classes and bus passes is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  2. Small update. $40 so far, the plan for language classes and bus passes is now scheduled.
