A free library and reading room for the Sycamore vacant lot: help our neighbors in Gothenburg

For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 16 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Sycamore vacant lot, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $660, and the remaining cost is $1,800. It will serve about 272 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $1,800 goes: • Permits and inspections: $145 • Tools hire and delivery: $135 • Materials: $1,520 If you can't give, please share this page. It does reach people.
