Volunteers in São Paulo are raising $600 for a free library and reading room at the old Freedom bus depot.

For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 9 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Freedom bus depot, but no funding. We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $600. It will serve about 592 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $600 goes: • Materials: $360 • Permits and inspections: $110 • Safety equipment and signage: $65 • Tools hire and delivery: $65 Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

Updates from Daniela

  1. Small update. $459 so far, I made the first payment toward tools hire and delivery.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($109 in total) I met with the suppliers and confirmed the amounts. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  3. Small update. $184 so far, I made the first payment toward materials.
