A covered market stall space: a volunteer-led effort in Toronto
Volunteers in Toronto are raising $650 for a covered market stall space at the Lotus community hall.
🇨🇦 Toronto, Ontario, Canada755 views
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a covered market stall space. This year a group of 17 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Lotus community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $650.
It will serve about 184 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $650 goes:
• Safety equipment and signage: $290
• Permits and inspections: $185
• Tools hire and delivery: $175
Thanks for reading all this.

Thinking of you and your family, Lucy. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did
How is Lucy doing now?
Praying for you, Lucy. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Take care.
Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Lucy
Sure. The biggest one is safety equipment and signage, $290. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Let me know if you want more detail.
Sending strength, Lucy. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in.
Thinking of you and your family. This could happen to any of us. My sister had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. God bless.
Stay strong, Lucy. Hope this works out for you. Take care
Hang in there. Shared this with my family. Please keep us posted. Greetings from San Diego
