A community fridge for the Pioneer vacant lot: help our neighbors in New Orleans
A community-led a community fridge at the Pioneer vacant lot that will serve 442 neighbors.

For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 30 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Pioneer vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $3,300.
It will serve about 442 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $3,300 goes:
• Materials: $2,250
• Permits and inspections: $350
• Safety equipment and signage: $300
• Tools hire and delivery: $400
