For three years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 17 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Lotus vacant lot, but no funding. We have received donated a pump, and the remaining cost is $4,700. It will serve about 191 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $4,700 goes: • Materials: $3,500 • Permits and inspections: $250 • Safety equipment and signage: $440 • Tools hire and delivery: $510 Glad we found this place.
