A community fridge: a volunteer-led effort in Yogyakarta
Volunteers in Yogyakarta are raising $650 for a community fridge at the Freedom community hall.

For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 11 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Freedom community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $650.
It will serve about 279 people, including young people who have nowhere safe to play. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $650 goes:
• Materials: $490
• Permits and inspections: $30
• Safety equipment and signage: $40
• Tools hire and delivery: $90
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. Greetings from Mansoura.
Praying for you, Bayu. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I went through something like this 14 years ago and strangers helped me out. God bless.
How is Bayu doing now?
Good luck, Bayu. This could happen to any of us. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend!
Hope it all works out. This could happen to any of us. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Thinking of Yogyakarta.
Rooting for you. Shared this with my family. I hope September is when things finally get easier. Take care.
