For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a community fridge. This year a group of 24 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Pioneer health centre yard, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $1,300, and the remaining cost is $700. It will serve about 530 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in August and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $700 goes: • Tools hire and delivery: $370 • Permits and inspections: $190 • Safety equipment and signage: $140 With deep gratitude, Micah

  • Best of luck. Great idea, hope you get there. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Love from Latina.

    • Sending love. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. After 17 years in social work I know how hard it's to ask for anything. All the best.

thinking of you, Micah. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too

        • Looking forward to the next update. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Greetings from Los Angeles

          • Wishing you the best, Micah. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. All the best.
