Wegayehu Selamawit Hailemariam
Master of bicycle repair, now teaching apprentices
- 🇪🇹 Gondar, Amhara, Ethiopia
- Old Beacon Workshop
- Since 2009
- English, Amharic, French
I've worked in bicycle repair since 2009. I learned from my mother and passed what I could on to 660 apprentices.
The best compliment I ever got was a customer who called me back 21 years later for another job.
I'm still learning every day.
More about Wegayehu
Some of my old apprentices now run their own shops. I couldn't be prouder.
Crafts and trades
What gifts mean to Wegayehu: I'd put gifts toward a new set of tools for the next apprentice.
