I taught English literature at Bamboo Primary School in Jakarta from 1981 to 1990. Most days I taught first-year students, and my door was open at lunch.
My classroom was always a bit noisy, a bit untidy and usually full of people who came for the biscuits.
I never expected anything in return, but a kind word always makes my day.
