I coached boxing at Shubra Football Club from 1979 to 2006. Most of my players were between 11 and 16, and a lot of them turned into friends for life.
Winning was never the point, though I won't pretend I didn't enjoy it. I kept a jar of spare pencils on my desk.
I never expected anything in return, but a kind word always makes my day.
