I coached cycling at Kansas City Football Club from 1989 to 2011. Most of my players were between 8 and 17, and a lot of them turned into friends for life.
Practice always ended with the same rule: nobody walks home alone. I paint watercolors of whatever is outside the window.
More about Valentina
I still keep the team photo from our best season on the wall.
What gifts mean to Valentina: I'll put any gifts toward a small fund so no child misses a match because of money.
