Toru Eiji Hayashi

Master of carpentry, now teaching apprentices

  • 🇯🇵 Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan
  • Yokohama Shop
  • 1994 to 2017
  • Japanese
I've worked in carpentry from 1994 to 2017. I learned from my father and passed what I could on to 1,360 apprentices. I can still tell good work from rushed work from across the street. I'm always reading two books at once.

More about Toru

Some of my old apprentices now run their own shops. I couldn't be prouder.

Crafts and trades

What gifts mean to Toru: I'd put gifts toward a new set of tools for the next apprentice.

You fixed our roof in 2003 and charged half what others asked. Greetings from Ogbomosho.
