I coached cycling at Hawassa Gateway Football Club from 2002 to 2011. Most of my players were between 9 and 18, and a lot of them turned into friends for life.
Winning was never the point, though I won't pretend I didn't enjoy it. I kept a jar of spare pencils on my desk.
