I coached swimming at San Antonio Northside Boxing Gym from 1983 to 1993. Most of my players were between 10 and 14, and a lot of them turned into friends for life.
Winning was never the point, though I won't pretend I didn't enjoy it. I wrote a short note to every student at the end of term.
I never expected anything in return, but a kind word always makes my day.
What gifts mean to Sergio: A gift would go toward kit and bus fares for kids who can't afford them.
