I taught design and technology at Los Angeles Secondary School in Los Angeles from 1982 to 2019. Most days I taught mixed-ability classes, and I kept a jar of spare pencils on my desk. My classroom was always a bit noisy, a bit untidy and usually full of people who came for the biscuits.
