Opio Ngowi

Local tailoring and electrical work

  • 🇰🇪 Thika, Kiambu, Kenya
  • The Bamboo Trades Guild
  • 1988 to 2001
  • English, Swahili
I've worked in tailoring from 1988 to 2001. I learned from my father and passed what I could on to 430 apprentices. Apprentices come in nervous and leave proud. That's my favorite part. I try to remember everyone's name. Hearing from old faces is the best part of my week.

More about Opio

Some of my old apprentices now run their own shops. I couldn't be prouder.

Crafts and trades

What gifts mean to Opio: I'd put gifts toward a new set of tools for the next apprentice.
