Musyoka Otieno Kato
Master of thatching, now teaching apprentices
- 🇹🇿 Zanzibar City, Zanzibar Urban/West, Tanzania
- Bamboo Trades Guild
- Since 1978
- English, Swahili, Spanish
I've worked in thatching since 1978. I learned from my aunt and passed what I could on to 1,920 apprentices.
Apprentices come in nervous and leave proud. That's my favorite part. I try to remember everyone's name.
More about Musyoka
If I fixed something for you, I hope it's still holding.
What gifts mean to Musyoka: I'd put gifts toward a new set of tools for the next apprentice.
