Muhammad Candra Gunawan
Master of thatching, now teaching apprentices
- 🇮🇩 Bekasi, West Java, Indonesia
- Old Bekasi Trades Guild
- Since 1996
- English, Indonesian
I've worked in thatching since 1996. I learned from my mother and passed what I could on to 1,470 apprentices.
Apprentices come in nervous and leave proud. That's my favorite part. I try to remember everyone's name.
Hearing from old faces is the best part of my week.
More about Muhammad
Some of my old apprentices now run their own shops. I couldn't be prouder.
What gifts mean to Muhammad: A gift would go toward tools for apprentices who can't afford their own.
