I taught agriculture and design and technology at Novosibirsk Grammar School, Novosibirsk. I kept a jar of spare pencils on my desk.
Over the years I had 1,260 students pass through my room. A few of them became teachers themselves, which still makes me smile.

The students I remember best weren't always the top of the class. They were the ones who asked "why?" when nobody else did.
