I taught history at Elmwood Boys' School in Kharkiv from 1987 to 2008. Most days I taught the final-year class, and I always had a bag of oranges in my drawer.
Over the years I had 1,160 students pass through my room. A few of them became teachers themselves, which still makes me smile.
What gifts mean to Ms. Semenov: If you do send something, I'll put it toward a small scholarship for a student who needs it.
