I came to teaching late, after working as a waiter, and nine years later I still can't imagine doing anything else.
Over the years I had 430 students pass through my room. A few of them became teachers themselves, which still makes me smile.
It has been a good run and I'm grateful for all of it.
More about Ms. Lopes
The students I remember best weren't always the top of the class. They were the ones who asked "why?" when nobody else did.
What gifts mean to Ms. Lopes: A gift would go toward books and supplies for the students I still tutor.
