I taught English literature at Harbor Boys' School in Birmingham from 1982 to 2008. Most days I taught the youngest children, and I always had a bag of oranges in my drawer.
Over the years I had 1,510 students pass through my room. A few of them became teachers themselves, which still makes me smile.
It has been a good run and I'm grateful for all of it.
