Mercedes M. Luna
Master of thatching, now teaching apprentices
- 🇺🇸 Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States
- Old Albuquerque Shop
- Since 1987
- English
I've worked in thatching since 1987. I learned from my aunt and passed what I could on to 1,250 apprentices.
I can still tell good work from rushed work from across the street. I bake for the whole street at New Year.

If I fixed something for you, I hope it's still holding.
Crafts and trades
What gifts mean to Mercedes: I'd put gifts toward a new set of tools for the next apprentice.
