I've spent 27 years as a lecturer in marine biology at Hillcrest Polytechnic in San Cristóbal de las Casas. I loved the lecture hall and loved office hours even more.
Former students now work as a postal worker and in a dozen other fields. It is the best part of this job.
I never expected anything in return, but a kind word always makes my day.
What gifts mean to Mauricio: Gifts will go to a small travel fund for students presenting their first paper.
