I coached rowing at Davao City Redwood Swimming Club from 1982 to 2004. Most of my players were between 10 and 18, and a lot of them turned into friends for life.
Winning was never the point, though I won't pretend I didn't enjoy it. I wrote a short note to every student at the end of term.
