Maria B. Mercado
Youth rowing coach and mentor
- 🇵🇭 Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines
- Manila Athletic Club
- 2015 to 2023
- English, Filipino
I coached rowing at Manila Athletic Club from 2015 to 2023. Most of my players were between 12 and 13, and a lot of them turned into friends for life.
Winning was never the point, though I won't pretend I didn't enjoy it. I wrote a short note to every student at the end of term.
I'm proud of everyone I got to work with.
More about Maria
Some of my former players now coach their own teams, which is the best thank-you I could ask for.
What gifts mean to Maria: I'll put any gifts toward a small fund so no child misses a match because of money.
