I taught environmental science at Baobab Public School in Bakersfield from 1985 to 2010. Most days I taught the youngest children, and I kept a jar of spare pencils on my desk.
Over the years I had 1,280 students pass through my room. A few of them became teachers themselves, which still makes me smile.
It has been a good run and I'm grateful for all of it.
