I taught English literature at Greenfield Secondary School in Galway from 1986 to 2017. Most days I taught Grade 11, and I never once raised my voice. My classroom was always a bit noisy, a bit untidy and usually full of people who came for the biscuits. It has been a good run and I'm grateful for all of it.
