Kumara Isuru Yapa
Self-taught embroidery artist
- 🇱🇰 Dehiwala, Western, Sri Lanka
- Brookfield Print Workshop
- Since 1979
- English, Sinhala
I work mostly in embroidery, sometimes woodcarving. My first show was in 1979 at Brookfield Print Workshop, and nobody came except my family and one confused dog.
Most of my work is inspired by markets and street scenes. I sing in a choir.
I'm proud of everyone I got to work with.
More about Kumara
I've had 13 small exhibitions over the years. My favorite was the one with the worst lighting.

What gifts mean to Kumara: I'd put a gift toward a kiln repair. It's been a long time coming.
