I coached swimming at Jeddah Hillcrest Community Club from 1984 to 2012. Most of my players were between 11 and 15, and a lot of them turned into friends for life.
Winning was never the point, though I won't pretend I didn't enjoy it. I stayed late on Thursdays for anyone who needed it.
It has been a good run and I'm grateful for all of it.
What gifts mean to Karim: I'll put any gifts toward a small fund so no child misses a match because of money.
