I coached rugby at Gateway Community Club from 1982 to 2003. Most of my players were between 9 and 18, and a lot of them turned into friends for life.
Winning was never the point, though I won't pretend I didn't enjoy it. I wrote a short note to every student at the end of term.
I never expected anything in return, but a kind word always makes my day.
