I taught history at Highland Public School in St. Louis from 1978 to 1996. Most days I taught Grade 6, and I kept a jar of spare pencils on my desk.
Over the years I had 990 students pass through my room. A few of them became teachers themselves, which still makes me smile.
More about Janet
The students I remember best weren't always the top of the class. They were the ones who asked "why?" when nobody else did.
