I've coached martial arts at Queensway Football Club since 1979. Most of my players were between 11 and 15, and a lot of them turned into friends for life.
Winning was never the point, though I won't pretend I didn't enjoy it. I write a short note to every student at the end of term.
I never expected anything in return, but a kind word always makes my day.

What gifts mean to Ian: I'll put any gifts toward a small fund so no child misses a match because of money.

I still think about the long bus ride home. Best summer of my life. Greetings from Hubballi.
