Hitomi Mio Watanabe
32 years teaching home economics in Tokyo
- 🇯🇵 Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan
- Gateway Middle School
- Since 1986
- Japanese
I came to teaching late, after working as a night-shift cleaner, and 40 years later I still can't imagine doing anything else.
I've coached the school's cross-country squad for a few seasons. We lost more than we won, and I'd do it all again.
I never expected anything in return, but a kind word always makes my day.

What gifts mean to Hitomi: If you do send something, I'll put it toward a small scholarship for a student who needs it.
