I've been a nurse for 25 years, most of them in palliative care at Our Lady of Peace Regional Medical Center in Dehiwala. Night shifts taught me patience, and patients taught me everything else.
I'm usually the first one in and the last to leave. Small things matter when someone is frightened.
It has been a good run and I'm grateful for all of it.
