I've spent 43 years as a lecturer in marine biology at Birmingham Polytechnic in Birmingham. I loved the lecture hall and loved office hours even more.
I'm happiest when a student comes to office hours with a question that makes me rethink something I've said for years. I sing in a choir.
I never expected anything in return, but a kind word always makes my day.
More about Hanna
Some of my favorite days were field trips that went spectacularly wrong.
What gifts mean to Hanna: Gifts will go to a small travel fund for students presenting their first paper.
