Girma Gashaw Abate

Professor of marine biology, Lakeview State University

  • 🇪🇹 Addis Ababa, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
  • Lakeview State University
  • Since 1985
  • English, Amharic
I've spent 41 years as a lecturer in marine biology at Lakeview State University in Addis Ababa. I loved the lecture hall and loved office hours even more. Former students now work as a night-shift cleaner and in a dozen other fields. It's the best part of this job. I never expected anything in return, but a kind word always makes my day.

More about Girma

Some of my favorite days were field trips that went spectacularly wrong.

What gifts mean to Girma: I'd put a gift toward a student bursary.
